Brisbane Lion Luke Hodge has teed off at Match Review Officer Michael Christian saying the system isn't doing what it's supposed to do.

Hodge was shocked to be charged with rough conduct and fined $2,000 for a tackle on Gold Coast Sun Alex Sexton during the frantic final quarter of Q Clash 16, Saturday night.

The four time Premiership superstar acknowledged Christian had a difficult job, but criticised him and the AFL for the lack of clarity and consistency, making it very clear what he thought the real purpose of the current system was and called on the AFL to sort it out.

Hodge, who has played 320 AFL games in a stellar career also defended skipper Dayne Zorko after his post-siren exchange with Suns tagger Touk Miller, saying everything that Zorko had done since taking over the captaincy from Dayne Beams far outweighed a two-second emotional reaction to an intense game.

He also spoke of his love of playing with the Lions young brigade as well as if he intended to play on in season 2019.
