Brisbane Lions AFLW player Kate McCarthy just kicked one of the goals of the season in their game against Collingwood at South Pine Sports Complex.

McCarthy received a pass Samantha Virgo in the centre square just behind the circle and took off, easily outpacing two chasing Pies defenders.

She didn’t lose any pace throughout the run and finished from the goal square for the Lions’ second goal of the match.

What makes her run even more impressive is that she plays with a pacemaker — a device that regulates her heartbeat for her which she has worn since she was 12.

"I used to get seizures, once every couple of years," she told Fairfax Media last week.

"One day, my heart just couldn't restart its own rhythm."

Another brilliant story from a competition that’s specialised in them.

Brisbane lead the Pies 3.2 (20) to 2.4 (16) at three quarter time.
