Sydney defender Nic Newman “appears likely to depart” the Swans at the end of this season, according to AFL.com.au.

Newman was rookie-listed by the Swans in 2015 as a 21-year-old after a VFL career with Frankston, and managed to crack Sydney’s first team last year.

Since then he’s played 31 games for the Swans off a half back flank.

AFL.com.au says that Newman “had been in the sights of” Gold Coast coach Stuart Dew, who used to be an assistant at Sydney.

Wayne Carey says that Geelong can next year’s flag.
