The goal of the pre-season might have come about a minute into the second game.
It was courtesy of Adam Saad, whose first disposal - and first goal - in Essendon colours in the JLT Community Series was an absolute cracker.
Saad intercepted the ball at centre half back and blazed up the corridor, taking two bounces and drilling home a drop punt from the centre square.
It was a goal that found plenty of praise from Nathan Brown.
"If you had a playbook for the Bombers of the perfect play for them with one of their new recruits, that is exactly it," he said on Triple M commentary.
"That's extraordinary."
Leigh Montagna was amazed at Saad's pace.
"He got from centre half back to centre half forward in about three and a half seconds!" he said.
