Adelaide star Josh Jenkins has been hospitalised with a rib injury.

Jenkins was involved in a collision with Hawthorn debutant Teia Miles, which left him in instant pain.

It took a while for Jenkins to get up and be assisted off the ground by trainers.

Neroli Meadows spotted Jenkins coming off on the Triple M boundary.

"Josh Jenkins is going straight into the rooms," she said.

"He is in an awful lot of pain, taking a lot of deep breaths...he's in a bad way at the moment."

Dr Rohan White confirmed the injury was to his ribs.

"Yeah, lower ribs," he confirmed.

"(He) couldn't get his breath. That's very disabling."

Jenkins was filmed walking slowly to an ambulance at quarter time.

White said at quarter time broken ribs could see Jenkins sidelined for a while.

"That could be four to six (weeks) for it to settle down."
