The AFL has made a ruling on the deliberate free kick paid against Callum Mills in the last quarter against the Western Bulldogs, saying the original decision was correct.

Mills rushed a behind midway through the last quarter and was penalised under the new and tougher rules surrounding deliberate rushed behinds.

The decision ended up being crucial, with Bulldog Liam Picken converting the goal and the Dogs running away with the game from there on.

AFL media manager Patrick Keane backed the decision on Twitter on Saturday morning.

"AFL has deemed delib. rushed free in Dogs/Swans as correct under stricter 2017 ruling, due to no physical pressure when ball put over line," he tweeted.

The rules state a free kick will be awarded if the player who rushes a behind is under no immediate physical pressure.
