Sydney midfielder Zak Jones has escaped suspension for his punch on Hawthorn’s Luke Breust.

The AFL stated last week that they would come down harder on punches of all varieties, but Jones is free to play the Western Bulldogs on Thursday week after the match review panel offered him a $1500 fine for striking Breust - his second classifiable offence.

Sydney have the bye this weekend.

Jones’ teammate Heath Grundy will also be free to face the Dogs after he was slapped with a $1000 fine for striking former Hawthorn skipper Luke Hodge.

St Kilda midfielder Jack Steven can also accept a $1000 for striking Bulldogs star Marcus Bontempelli.

Brisbane captain Dayne Beams and Collingwood vice-captain Taylor Adams have both been offered $1000 fines for wrestling each other while North Melbourne’s Ryan Clarke ($1000) was also fined for engaging in rough conduct with Carlton’s Matthew Wright.

The MRP cleared Port Adelaide forward Charlie Dixon for heavily colliding with Geelong skipper Joel Selwood. The panel said there was insufficient high contact for a report.

Hawthorn veteran Shaun Burgoyne didn’t have a case to answer either for his forceful tackle applied to Sydney’s Sam Reid. The MRP said Reid was not rotated or driven into the ground with excessive force and that there was no double action in the tackle, either.
