Sydney superstar Lance Franklin is free to face Essendon on Friday night after avoiding suspension at the match review panel on Monday.

Franklin was reported on Saturday for making head-high contact with Richmond’s Connor Menadue but has been offered a $1000 fine.

Geelong champion Joel Selwood has escaped suspension as well for his hit on West Coast veteran Sam Mitchell. He also can accept a $1000 sanction.

Mitchell’s teammate Luke Shuey is free to face Melbourne after copping a $1000 fine for engaging in rough conduct with reigning Brownlow Medalist Patrick Dangerfield.

St Kilda veteran Nick Riewoldt was also fined $1000 for striking North Melbourne defender Scott Thompson in the back.

Sydney youngster Zak Jones and Gold Coast midfielder Matt Rosa have both been offered one-game suspensions for striking Richmond’s Dan Butler and striking Carlton’s Dale Thomas respectively.

Bulldogs forward Jake Stringer ($1500) and Melbourne defender Neville Jetta ($1000) were fined for wrestling each other.

Meanwhile, Mitchell has been cleared of making contact with Selwood. The MRP said the action was not a striking motion and there was insufficient high contact for a report to be laid.

Richmond defender Alex Rance was cleared of taking a dive after Franklin made minimal impact to his body.

Richmond forward Jack Riewoldt was cleared of making contact to Sydney onballer Luke Parker. The MRP said there was insufficient force in the contact for a charge to be laid.

And Thomas was cleared of collecting Gold Coast defender Adam Saad. Saad was left dazed for a while and had to leave the ground but it was the MRP’s view that the former Magpie over-ran ball and didn’t elect to bump. The panel said the incident was not reportable in the circumstances.
