Richmond captain Trent Cotchin is free to play against Fremantle this weekend after being cleared by match review officer Michael Christian for contact made against Collingwood’s Jarryd Blair.

Christian deemed Cotchin’s tackle on Blair at the MCG on Sunday was careless. However, the impact was below the forced required to constitute a reportable offence.

Meanwhile, the AFL’s coffers could be boosted by as much as $17,500 after 14 fines were handed out.

Sydney youngster Ben Ronke can accept a $1500 fine for instigating a melee against Geelong while Cats pair Zach Tuohy ($1500) and Tom Stewart ($1000) have also been fined for participating in a melee along with Ronke’s teammate Kieren Jack ($1000). 

Fines of $1000 for making careless contact with an umpire were dished out to Port Adelaide’s Steven Motlop, North Melbourne’s Ben Cunnington, Gold Coast’s David Swallow, Adelaide’s Matt Crouch and Richmond superstar Dustin Martin.

North Melbourne ruckman Todd Goldstein, Gold Coast forward Tom Lynch and West Coast midfielder Chris Masten were offered $1500 fines for misconduct against Port Adelaide’s Ollie Wines, Adealide’s Mitch McGovern and Fremantle’s Ed Langdon respectively. 

Melbourne’s Bernie Vince can accept a $2000 fine for striking Essendon on-baller Darcy Parish and West Coast star Luke Shuey was offered a $2000 sanction for kneeing Fremantle youngster Bailey Banfield.

Elsewhere, Brisbane’s Nick Robertson was slapped with a one-game ban for his off-the-ball hit on the Giants’ Harrison Himmelberg while Essendon ruckman Matthew Leuenberger can accept a one-game suspension for striking Melbourne counterpart Max Gawn.

Meanwhile, Geelong’s Jordan Murdoch was cleared of rough conduct on Sydney’s Isaac Heeney, Port Adelaide’s Darcy Byrne-Jones was cleared of striking North Melbourne skipper Jack Ziebell and Heeney was cleared of dangerously tackling Geelong’s George Horlin-Smith.
