Collingwood’s Sophie Casey has been handed a two-week suspension from the match review panel for her bone-crunching hit on Melbourne’s Meg Downie on Saturday night.

The ban is the lengthiest sanction handed down to a player so far in the inaugural AFL Women's season.

Downie was knocked out cold in the final quarter of the Demons’ 19-point win and needed to be stretchered off the ground.

Casey was charged with engaging in rough conduct after making careless conduct with high impact to the head.

The incident was classed as a three-week sanction, reduced to two with an early guilty plea.

Meanwhile, the Western Bulldogs’ Laura Bailey can accept a one-game ban for also engaging in rough conduct with Adelaide’s Courtney Cramey.
