The AFLW is set to introduce the last-disposal out-of-bounds rule that already exists in the SANFL, according to the Herald Sun.

With the rule in place, a free kick is paid against the side that kicks or handballs the ball over the boundary.

The SANFL introduced the rule in 2016 in order to limit congestion and speed the game up.

The league has seen scoring improve since the change.

The Herald Sun expects the AFL Commission to give the rule change for the AFLW the all clear this week.

The rule will make be easier for umpires to adjudicate than the deliberate out of bounds rule, which caused controversy several times in the 2017 season.
