Wayne Carey has said Alastair Clarkson has apologised to him over his post-match comments on Sunday, and that he accepts the apology.

Clarkson hit out at Carey's comments regarding Cyril Rioli on the Saturday Rub in his post-match press conference.

Carey spoke on The Rub ahead of the Collingwood/Essendon Anzac Day clash, saying the two spoke that morning and they are on good terms.

"I accept his apology and we move forward from this point on," he said.

"Obviously we messaged one another yesterday, we caught up this morning.

"That's the first time I've heard that (audio), by the way.

"We caught up this morning and Clarko apologised for being personal and those comments, and we had a good discussion in and around the media."

Carey said it's given him a "wake up call".

"It sort of made me think...I'm here to talk about football, and he's right," he said.

"I really shouldn't be delving into anything news in terms of my role in the media, and it's given me a little bit of a wake up call to do exactly that.

"Rumour and innuendo it is, we hear so much of it and most of it is bullshit, to quote Clarko.

"So I think I'll be steering clear of anything newsy."
