Essendon defender Alex Morgan will part ways with the Bombers, while rookie Ben McNiece has earned another year on the list.

Morgan was offered a one-year contract by the Bombers, but expressed his interest in joining another club after failing to break into the side in two years on the list.

List manager Adrian Dodoro confirmed the 21-year-old wanted to join another club.

“We offered Alex a one year contract extension but he has indicated to us that he wants to seek other opportunities,” he told the club's website.

“We respect his decision, wish him all the best for the future and thank him for his time at the Bombers.”

Dodoro praised McNiece after the rookie earned another year.

“Ben began his career with Essendon in the VFL side, before he was signed with the Bombers in 2017 as a category B rookie,” he said.

“In his several seasons in the red and black he has continued to develop on and off the field, displaying key values the club strives for.

“Ben’s attitude after being injured during the 2017 season has been commendable. His efforts to rehabilitate his body have been outstanding and make him a highly respected player at the club.

“We are excited to see him back at his best next year and believe he will be a great addition to the Dons line-up.”
