Melbourne player Aliesha Newman kicked what would be the early front runner for goal of the year in their AFLW clash with Adelaide at Casey Fields today.

Newman collected the ball just forward of centre wing and chucked on the after burners, backing herself to beat Crows defender Talia Radan despite Radan having a head start.

Newman tucked the ball under her arm and accelerated into the 50, evading Radan’s desperate chase, and kicked a goal on the outside of the boot on the run from 25 metres out hugging the boundary line.
