Jack Higgins had a tweet go viral a few days ago.

Not the Richmond draftee, though: an American bloke.

Higgins, who resides in Indiana, earned a few Twitter followers on draft night after fans somehow mistook him for the Higgins who landed at Richmond with pick 17 in the 2017 AFL draft.

"To the 14 followers I just gained from Australia, I do not play rugby for the Richmond Tigers," he wrote.

"I understand you're excited but I'm 5'7" and have limited athletic ability. Thank you for the love tho."

Higgins - the American, 5'7" marketing student on the other side of the world - later said he couldn't believe how much traction the message got.

"I’m a little bit blown away by how much has come from that tweet or whatever. It still kind of blows my mind," he told onballers.com on Monday.

"I love the enthusiasm from everyone in Australia. Everyone loves it, everyone’s been friendly.

"Um, honestly I did think it was rugby though. I’m not going to lie to you. I thought it was rugby. I looked up the team a little bit. I guess I should’ve done a little bit more research. Could’ve saved myself a little bit there."

Despite concerns around his skill in the Australian game - let alone familiarity - Higgins reckons he can give AFL a fair shake.

"I’m ready. Tell the Tigers to give me that contract," he said.

"I’m a free-agent still right now. I’ll start putting together some film."
