Andrew Embley has said West Coast need to find the "right mix", otherwise they risk missing finals this season.

The Eagles have lost three games in a row and sit precariously in the top eight, with a 6-5 record.

Embley said on Triple M's pre-game coverage of West Coast/Geelong that they need to find the right balance in all parts of the ground.

"They stand for a team at the moment that have been really inconsistent and they're probably still trying to find out what their right mix is, through the midfield, through the forward line and also through the back line as well," he said.

"We've seen Tom Barrass, who started the season in the side and then he was dropped, and I certainly think he is the future. Eric Mackenzie, who won a best and fairest at the football club a few years ago...has found it really difficult to get himself back into the side. (Will) Schofield has been in and out."

Embley said the side needs to settle on its best 22, otherwise they risk missing out of September action.

"I think that West Coast is still trying to find who their best mix is," he said.

"They're going to have to really figure it out quite quickly, because this season is travelling pretty quickly at the moment, and they don't sort something out soon, then they maybe just miss the finals."
