Fremantle has followed in Richmond's footsteps, turning down a pick swap that could have sealed the Jake Stringer trade.

Stringer's fate has stalled since Essendon traded away their first-round pick, pick 11, in order to secure GWS forward Devon Smith.

The Herald Sun reported Fremantle were approached about a trade, with the Dogs having their eyes on their pick five.

It suggests the Dogs would have accepted a deal from the Bombers that would have seen their first two picks, currently 25 and 30, land at Whitten Oval in exchange for Stringer.

To incentivise the deal, the Dogs would then trade one of those selections plus their current first-round selection, pick nine, to the Dockers for pick five.

The report says Fremantle turned down the offer, much like Richmond did when offered something similar.

The Tigers hold picks 15 and 17 in the draft, and were also linked to a potential deal that could have unlocked the trade.
