AFL attendance records have tumbled across round five.

The 87,685 that came to the MCG today took the full round attendance of 391,980, the second highest single round attendance in the history of the game

The figure is just under 10,000 short of the 400,401 that came through the turnstiles in round one this year.

it was also the first round to ever feature two matches with over attendances over 80,000:

Last night’s game was the highest attendance for a home and away game between Melbourne and Richmond — 85,657 — and was the biggest crowd Melbourne had played in front since the 2000 Grand Final.

Over 170,00 at the G in just under 24 hours in the pissing rain — Melbourne truly is the home of sport.
