Australia has named Hawthorn star Shaun Burgoyne as captain for the upcoming International Rules Series against Ireland.
Burgoyne will take charge of a star-studded lineup, with Patrick Dangerfield, Nat Fyfe, Scott Pendlebury and Chad Wingard in the squad.
The silky midfielder picked ahead of club captains, Fyfe, Pendlebury and Joel Selwood.
Burgoyne played all 22 games for Hawthorn this year, averaging 20.36 touches per game.
He kicked 17 goals and picked up five Brownlow votes.
The first International Rules game is at Adelaide Oval on Sunday, while the second game is in Perth on November 18.
