Ben Cousins has reportedly been released from prison, almost a year after he was jailed.

He was reportedly smiling as he was picked up by his father, Bryan, from Acacia Prison on Wednesday morning.

Cousins was jailed nearly a year ago and fined $2400 for stalking his ex-partner.

He had bombarded his ex-parner Maylea Tinecheff, with whom he has had two kids, with more than 2000 texts and calls between October 2016 and February 2017, including 103 times in one day.

A violence restraining order has been in place.

The 39-year-old was due for parole in August but failed a drug test while in prison, delaying an opportunity for early release.

He was also involved in a minor scuffle during his time behind bars, in which he was not injured.

Cousins played 238 games for West Coast, including skippering the 2006 premiership and winning the 2005 Brownlow Medal, as well as 32 games for Richmond.
