Troubled AFL premiership player Ben Cousins is due to face a Perth court on an outstanding drug charge.

The former West Coast Eagles captain is scheduled to face Fremantle Magistrates Court on Friday over an allegation that he was in possession of meth in June.

Cousins, 38, was fined in December after he pleaded guilty to two drug offences and two breaches of a violence restraining order taken out by his former partner Maylea Tinecheff, with whom he has two children aged three and five.

The drug addict also has another charge remaining for failing to appear in court last year, but his lawyer Michael Tudori previously said Cousins had a medical certificate.

Cousins was suspended from the AFL for one year in 2007 for bringing the game into disrepute.

The Brownlow medallist made a comeback with Richmond before retiring in 2010 and his troubles have continued in the public eye.
