North Melbourne midfielder Ben Cunnington is in doubt after going down to the rooms with an ankle injury in the first term.

Cunnington had his right leg twisted in a tackle during the first quarter, and was immediately surrounded by doctors.

He hobbled off the ground with trainers by his side and went down to the rooms.

Michael Roberts spotted the incident on Triple M.

"Cunnington off the ground, down into the rooms, favouring the right ankle," he reported.

"They'll have a look at that, strap it, probably have a jab. He's just called for more tape, the physio...they'll see if they can get the number 10 back out there."

Cunnington returned to the sidelines late in the term, with Roberts saying he was doing a fitness test, but said he was still "doubtful" after listening to North Melbourne doctors.

"They're really concerned that he can't stop properly and can't go on that ankle," he said.

The 25-year-old had racked up five disposals, two clearances and a goal in his short stint on the ground.

He leads the Roos in average disposals this season, as well as clearances and contested possessions.
