St Kilda has been forced to make a late change, with young gun Paddy McCartin a late out.

McCartin has been withdrawn with a hamstring complaint.

It is another blow for St Kilda's number one draft pick, who has never played more than four consecutive games at AFL level with various injuries.

He has been replaced by Jack Lonie.

St Kilda has confirmed McCartin's withdrawal is precautionary, and he will play in a VFL practice match tomorrow.

"Paddy pulled up a little bit tight in his hamstring on Thursday but was cleared to play by medical staff and selected in the Round 1 side," general manager of football Jamie Cox said.

"We've subsequently decided to withdraw Paddy from this match and we plan to give him a run in the VFL practice match tomorrow, where we can manage the minutes he will play.

"Given it is Round 1, we weren't prepared to take any risk with Paddy."

The Dees have gone in unchanged.
