Triple M Footy’s Billy Brownless reckons he came close to winning the Brownlow Medal in 1990.

“I led halfway through the night and I ended up with 14 votes. (Tony) Liberatore won it with 20 – so two more best on grounds,” Billy insisted on Triple M’s Rush Hour.

“I think I was sixth or something but I didn’t get invited.

“I was on Hamilton Island, pre-mobile phone at the Barefoot Bar. A couple of frothies there, and doing some of my best work actually, but did not know until two days later because the Herald Sun didn’t come up to Hamilton Island for two days.”

If this story sounds like crap to you, then you're right!

As it turns out Bill didn’t even finish in the top 10 in 1990! In fact, he finished 11th with 12 votes! Come on, Bill!!
