Box Hill have completed a remarkable comeback to win the VFL flag over Casey Demons at Marvel Stadium.

The Hawks were trailing by as much as 25 points in the first quarter and never led until midway through the final term.

When they did get ahead they never looked like giving it up, before eventually running out 10.12 (72) to 8.14 (62) victors.

It completed a fairy tale finals series for the Hawks, who finished sixth in regular season and were nearly eliminated at the prelim stage when a late Williamstown shot on goal narrowly missed to give them a one point lead.

Dylan Moore booted three majors for the Hawks on the day, while David Mirra was named Norm Goss medallist as best on ground.
