Brayden Maynard will be staying at Collingwood after signing a contract extension.

The Magpie has signed a two-year extension, taking him until the end of 2020.

The defender was set to be out of contract at the end of the upcoming season, but ensured he would stay on and extend his career beyond 51 games.

“We are rapt to have Brayden extend his contract with the club through to 2020,” list manager Ned Guy told the club's website.

“With over 50 games under his belt, I’m confident Brayden is only just beginning to help drive the high standards this playing group will take into next season and beyond.”

Maynard looks set to become a contributor to Collingwood's midfield in 2018 after expressing his desire to play more minutes there.

“I’d love to play midfield all year,” he told Collingwood Media last month.

“My goal for this off-season is to build my tank up. I’ve got to run with one of the older blokes who has been in the midfield for quite a while and follow them and keep up with them.”

Maynard has played 51 games for the Pies after making his debut midway through 2015, quickly becoming a regular in the club's best side.

He was drafted with pick 30 in the 2014 AFL draft.
