Brendan Fevola was full of praise for Carlton after their win over Hawthorn, calling it their best win in "at least seven years".

The Blues snapped a 12-year losing streak against the Hawks in style, upsetting their rivals by seven points.

Fevola, speaking on Triple M's coverage of the game, heaped on the praise for his former club.

“I reckon that’s the best win they’ve had in at least seven years,” he said after the match.

“That’d be the best win they’ve had as a group."

Fev said beating such a successful side for the first time in a while will give them plenty of confidence.

"What have they won, three flags? (They’ve) played in grand finals. They’ve been a brilliant side, Hawthorn, always had the wood over (them)," he said.

“To beat them on the Telstra Dome where they don’t usually play that well...that’s a real confidence boost for that group."

Daisy Pearce agreed, saying the young group will relish a game like that.

“Yeah, confidence not just for the old guys, who have all the scars from all those losses, but I think for this young group who have been asked to play a very defensive style of game this year," she said.

"It’s been criticised quite often. For them to come out and play quite attacking, brave, daring footy and for it to not cost their defence - they’ve kept Hawthorn to 70 points."
