Brian Lake’s manager has confirmed that the triple premiership Hawk has been arrested in Japan.

Lake was reportedly thrown in jail after being involved in a scuffle while out celebrating a win with the Indonesian Volcanoes in the AFL Asia tournament.

“Brian Lake has been detained by authorities after an incident on Sunday morning (AEST) in Osaka, Japan,” i50 Management managing director Marty Pask said.

“We are still gathering all the information. However, Brian is assisting the authorities with their inquiries.

“Given the international constraints involved and out of respect to local governance, we won’t be commenting further at this stage.

“We do ask that the privacy of Brian’s wife and children be respected during this stressful time.”

The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed to the Herald Sun that they were assisting an Australian in Japan.

“The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is making inquiries about an Australian in Japan who may require consular assistance and stands ready to provide assistance, in accordance with the Consular Services Charter, should it be requested,” DFAT said.

“Owing to our privacy obligations we will not provide further comment.”

Lake could be held for up to 23 days without charge by the Japanese authorities.
