The Brisbane Lions have confirmed that defender Harris Andrews has suffered a small bleed on the brain as a result of the massive hit he copped from GWS forward Jeremy Cameron.

Andrews had been admitted to hospital after his condition worsened but after undergoing tests and scans, he was discharged and returned home Sunday evening.

Cameron is facing a lengthy suspension for the brutal hit, which left Andrews knocked out mid-air and requiring stitches in his chin.

The Lions medical staff will remain in constant consultation with a neurosurgeon, who will re-assess Andrews in two weeks’ time.

Brisbane said in a release that they will follow standard protocols around concussion this week and will regularly monitor Andrews’ condition.

“Our discussions with the neurosurgeon have been encouraging as they expect Harris to make a full recovery,” Lions football manager David Noble said.

“He will have a follow-up scan in two weeks’ time, when we will know more.”
