Billy Brownless and Mark Howard from Triple M’s Rush Hour are sending their best wishes to Bruce McAvaney who is battling cancer.

The sports broadcasting legend revealed in a Herald Sun story that he was diagnosed with leukaemia two years ago.

McAvaney has Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia which is a type of blood cancer.

“Our best to Bruce and his wife Annie and his entire family,” Howie said.

Billy added: “Everyone loves Bruce.”

McAvaney told the Herald Sun he now felt “rejuvenated” and was looking forward to covering the footy season which kicks off in six days.

“I can’t give the football up as it is 26 weeks of heaven,” he said.

“Every morning I wake up and there is a football match to look forward to, there is a race meeting, there is an Olympic Games coming up, it’s ridiculous, but it’s the way I live.”
