Carlton defender Caleb Marchbank has been taken to hospital with a raised heartbeat, but coach Brendon Bolton says "he's okay".

Marchbank was taken from the field during the last term of Carlton's 65-point loss, with Bolton saying after the game it was due to a raised heartbeat.

Bolton said he'll be taken to hospital for a check-up.

"I don't really understand it fully," he said post-match.

"He's okay, but there was some raised heartbeat going on, so I don't really understand it.

"The doctor said he's okay, so he's off to hospital now so be checked."

"We'll see how that unfolds."

The Blues also lost Jacob Weitering (calf) and Andrew Phillips (hamstring) as well as Kade Simpson (calf tightness) before the game.
