Triple M Footy’s James Brayshaw is confused by reports that Carlton will now in fact apply for a priority pick at the end of the season.

In the middle of the year, the Blues emphatically ruled out any chance of asking the league for a priority pick and JB doesn’t understand how the club could perform such a “backflip” only a couple of months after having such a strong stance on the issue.

“So if you’re Carlton, how do you do that big a backflip?,” JB posed on Triple M’s Rush Hour during The Midweek Rub.

“The question is, ‘Why did you say it in the first place?’

“When they said it eight weeks ago, or whatever it was, everyone thought, ‘What a stupid thing to say’, because you could well get to the end of the season and badly need one.

“So now they’re just acting as if that wasn’t said and now we do want one? How is it being handled?”

Damian Barrett answered: “They’re not washing hands of what was said but they’re now wishing they didn’t say it.”

Meanwhile, JB doesn’t believe Gold Coast should get a priority pick if, as expected, they get pick No.3, on top of No.2, as compensation for losing co-captain Tom Lynch via free agency.
