If Carlton lose to Essendon at the MCG on Sunday, they will create a piece of unwanted club history.

Losing to their arch nemesis would be bad enough, but another defeat would mean the Blues start a season 0-3 for the fifth time in a row – a feat they have never “achieved” before.

Given Carlton are a foundation VFL/AFL club, it puts into context how badly they have been struggling in recent years.

It goes without saying that the Blues will be desperate for a win and nothing would give them more pleasure than raining on the Bombers’ parade.

John Worsfold’s men have made a dream start to 2017 with all their previously banned players available.

Essendon are 2-0 and are gunning for their first 3-0 start to a season since 2013, so Carlton would be keen to bring them back down to earth with a thud.

The Dons also have the wood over Carlton, having lost just one of their last seven meetings.
