Taylor is goalless this year

Geelong has attracted criticism for playing their All-Australian centre half back Harry Taylor in the forward line this year.

The Cats identified the centre half forward position as a problem in the off-season and trained Taylor to play there, leaving Lachie Henderson and veteran Tom Lonergan to hold down the key defensive posts.

Taylor has gone goalless in the Cats’ first three games, but the Cats have managed to go 3-0 regardless — albeit with close calls against North Melbourne and Melbourne.

But while the Cats have been criticised for the move, Chris Judd has defended it speaking on the Friday Huddle ahead of the North Melbourne v Western Bulldogs clash.

“I can’t remember seeing Tommy Hawkins have as many one-on-ones as he has early on this year,” Juddy said.

“I think having those two key targets is just so important for both forwards.”

Judd said that the extra tall helps with the chemistry of the forward line.

“I look at Collingwood play and even though Travis Cloke didn’t have much of an impact for them last on the field last year, I just think his presence and ability to be able to draw a defender really opened things up for Darcy Moore a lore more than he’s experienced so far this season,” Juddy said.

“I think Geelong will be pretty happy as a collective how it’s working out so far.”

The Cats next play Hawthorn in their traditional Easter Monday fixture.
