Chris Judd has lauded Joel Selwood for his courage, calling his toughness at the contest "legendary".

Selwood was at the centre of attention during the Geelong/Adelaide clash, copping a nasty cut to the head late in the first quarter in a marking contest.

Of all the cuts and bruises Selwood's copped to the head, this was probably the worst.

Neroli Meadows asked Judd if he'd seen a tougher player.

"I don't think there is a tougher player, to answer your question, Nez," he said.

"His courage is legendary. (He) puts his head in places where seemingly no other thing can happen except for him to get a sizeable knock.

"Certainly that contest in the first quarter where he did get cleaned up and opened up, that nasty gash, was brave bordering on stupid."

Selwood returned straight away in the second quarter, racking up 12 disposals - all of them effective - in the second term.

Juddy praised Selwood - and Patrick Dangerfield - for their high standards.

"I think we talk about peer group pressure often in a negative form," he said.

"But what you see Joel Selwood do and Patrick Dangerfield do: it's peer group pressure in a very, very positive sense for their teammates.
