Chris Yarran is set to be released by Richmond to play for Swan Districts in the WAFL this weekend.

Yarran has struggled to stay on the park since being traded to the Tigers from Carlton at the end of 2015.

He has not played a senior game since his move to Punt Road and was released from his three year deal at the Tigers in November to deal with personal issues.

Swan Districts is the club Yarran was drafted from in 2008 and is where he has been training for the past six weeks.

Swan Districts coach Greg Harding told The West Australian "If 'Yaz' can stay fit, he looms as a real wildcard for us in the back end of the season."

The release is pending AFL approval but looks likely to go ahead.

More to come.
