Collingwood midfielder Daniel Wells is on track to feature in "some part" of the pre-season, according to football boss Geoff Walsh.

Wells has had a hampered first pre-season with the Pies, hurting his calf late last year.

It comes off the back of a recent injury history, with Wells playing just 12 of a possible 50 games in 2014 and 2015, before playing 19 of a possible 23 games with former club North Melbourne last year.

Walsh confirmed Wells was "on track".

“Daniel played some time in both of our match-like hit outs this week and, right now, he is on track to participate in some part of our pre-season campaign," he said.

“He has attacked his work and is building his preparation up nicely.

“(High performance manager) Bill Davoren and his high performance team have managed him astutely, building his stamina through the pre-Christmas period without taking any undue risks."

The JLT Community Series begins on February 16, with Collingwood taking on Essendon.
