Some controversy has emerged ahead of the Western derby with Fremantle deciding not to continue with the Ross Glendinning Medal and post-match trophy.
The medal, awarded since 2001 for the best afield in the Fremantle/West Coast clash, will not be awarded this weekend due to a change in Fremantle's sponsorship agreement with Carlton United Breweries.
There will also be no trophy awarded in a decision Triple M Footy's Lachy Reid said was confusing.
“This has baffled me, this decision,” he told Mix 94.5 on Tuesday morning.
LISTEN TO LACHY REID EXPLAIN:
"The fact we’ve just dropped the medal for what, a sponsorship agreement? It’s quite amazing."
West Coast coach Adam Simpson has said the Eagles will celebrate it in their own way "internally".
"I suppose it’s Freo’s prerogative. Now that CUB aren’t the game-day sponsor, they can do what they want," he told Channel 7.
"Look, it’s a little bit disappointing from our end, (for) Ross, with the heritage and the WA football legend status he carries.
"We’ll still have a medal - it will just be to a West Coast player."
