North Melbourne forward Corey Wagner has been dealt an unlucky blow after scans revealed the extent of his ankle injury.

Wagner had surgery last night after sustaining a high ankle sprain in the club's win over Adelaide.

“Unfortunately Corey injured the syndesmosis component of his right ankle,” doctor Peter Bacquie told the North Melbourne website.

“At this stage, we expect him to miss the next six to eight weeks.”

“He fell awkwardly after the tackle and the weight of his body came down onto his ankle resulting in a significant sprain,” Bacquie added.
