Gold Coast police officer Damian Leeding will be honoured today, six years after he was killed trying to stop a robbery at the Pacific Pines Tavern.

The 35-year-old Senior Constable was shot dead during the robbery on May 29, 2011.

His shooter, Phillip Abell, is serving life behind bars for murder.

AAP reports Const Leeding will today be awarded a posthumous Bravery Medal.

His wife, Sonya, will accept it on his behalf during a ceremony in Brisbane.

Damian's partner on the night in question, Sergeant Nicole Anne Jackson, will also be awarded a Bravery Medal for her actions.
