Triple M Footy’s Jason Dunstall and Damian Barrett both believe Nathan Buckley will hang onto his job as Collingwood coach.

Buckley remains out of contract beyond this season after six years in the role and a fourth consecutive campaign without finals footy.

The Collingwood board met on Tuesday night and president Eddie McGuire has reiterated that a decision on Buckley won’t be made until after the end of the season, which takes place this weekend against Melbourne at the MCG.

Buckley has been under intense pressure all season, especially after saying at the end of last year that he effectively expected to lose his job this year if he failed to steer the Magpies to the finals yet again.

However, after speculation for most of the year suggesting Buckley would get sacked, Damo and Chief now believe the sentiment has shifted back towards the 2003 Brownlow Medalist remaining Collingwood coach in 2018.

“Something will happen within the seven days of  that Round 23 match,” Damo told the Midweek Rub on Triple M’s Rush Hour.

“My opinion is that his time would have been up after he got to five wins and 10 losses this year but my feeling around it now is that he will be surviving and having some support around it. That’s a feeling only, I’m not presenting it as anything other than a gut feel around what’s happening.”

Chief added: “The school of thought has shifted back towards him staying as opposed to where it was.”

James Brayshaw believes there’ll be some changes made in Collingwood’s football department.

“I always wondered why you would have such a public review of your core business and then not doing anything on the back of it,” JB said.

“I think they’ve got to do something. This is the biggest club in the comp, they’ve had four straight years out of the finals, I would be staggered if something didn’t shake out.”
