Damian Barrett says Gold Coast need to make finals for Rodney Eade to remain at the club beyond this year.

The Suns have had Eade at the helm for three seasons, but none of them have contained an elusive finals spot.

Barrett said on the Saturday Rub that's what Eade needs to keep his spot.

"He's going to need to make the finals, the way I read this, to have any chance at all of staying on," he said.

"That was pretty much how it was at the start of the year."

Gold Coast has slumped to a 3-7 record and 16th on the ladder after recent big losses to Port Adelaide and Melbourne.

But Barrett noted the Suns do have a favourable draw coming up, which may boost their chances.

After their clash with West Coast on Saturday, the Suns play Hawthorn, Carlton, St Kilda, North Melbourne, Sydney and Collingwood.

"If they can somehow get over the Eagles today, they don't have the most difficult draw from here on in. They have some winnable games," he said.
