Triple M's Damian Barrett believes Jake Stringer's preferred destination is Geelong.

The star Bulldog is on the trade table and courting offers from Victorian clubs to move elsewhere next season.

Geelong, Essendon, Collingwood and Richmond are all reportedly in the mix.

Barrett believes Geelong is leading the chase.

"His club of choice, as we speak today, is Geelong," he said on Triple M's Friday Huddle

"But how they get it done, with their lack of access to high-end draft picks, and given that they've already gone down a path...of the Ablett project, it's going to make things difficult for him.

"But (in an) ideal world for him, he goes to Geelong."

Luke Darcy backed the decision for the Western Bulldogs to let him go.

"It's a brave call, isn't it?" Darce said.

"And I think it's a really strong call, because of the way that that side is coached, it's about 18 players all specifically playing their role.

"He's a freak, he's a talented freak, 57 goal All-Australian two years ago. Wins a premiership last year, has an off year and kicks close to 50 goals again. On a year where he's struggled he's kicked 40 goals, so absolutely you'd be going after Jake Stringer.

"But at the same time, if you really value what the team is about and you set a standard, if the player doesn't live up to it, strong message to send to the group, isn't it?

"At the end of the day, if you don't get the right deal, he's got a year left on his contract, you then say, hey, we shopped you around and we couldn't get a deal done, you need on our teams to come back and play the way we want to play."
