Triple M Footy’s Damian Barrett believes every one of Port Adelaide’s six off-season recruits have asterisks next to their names.
While Damo admires the Power’s bold list management strategy, he told Triple M’s Rush Hour on Monday he was far from sold on the notion that those new signings would help them achieve premiership success.
Port Adelaide picked up Tom Rockliff (Brisbane Lions), Jack Watts (Melbourne), Steven Motlop (Geelong), Lindsay Thomas (North Melbourne), Trent McKenzie (Gold Coast) and Jack Trengove (Melbourne) at the end of the year.
“I really like what Port have done, but the players they have acquired have all got an asterisk on them, don’t they,” he said.
“Like Motlop, for instance. You’ve got Rockliff as well who was a captain of another footy club once upon a time.
“Jack Watts – there’s question marks there. People forget they also added Trent McKenzie, Lindsay Thomas and Jack Trengove.
“I love a team that goes all in, but then parlaying that into that end outcome is the challenge.
“They’re well aware of what they’ve done, they’ve hit their recruiting zones at a time they had planned for.”
The Power kick off their season on Saturday against Fremantle at Adelaide Oval.
