Triple M Footy’s Damian Barrett believes if Melbourne handled Jack Viney’s foot injury better this time last year, then their co-captain wouldn’t be facing another long stint on the sidelines.

Viney is set to miss at least another four weeks of footy after re-aggravating his troublesome foot which kept him sidelined at the end of the 2017 season and the start of this season.

Damo told Triple M’s Rush Hour on Monday that if the Demons didn’t rush the 24-year-old back towards the end of last season, his foot might be in better shape than it currently is.

“It all gets back to him being rushed back, and him choosing to, along with other people at the club, this time last year to get himself ready for the final rounds in which they were expecting and hoping to make the finals series,” Damo said.

“We know that didn’t happen and we also know that in rushing back, it set him back and aggravated the already-existing problem.

“The same foot is what’s at play here, same part of the foot. Ultimately rushing him back last year futilely has now cost him the opening eight games of this year and another chunk of footy now.

“I can’t see Melbourne daring to go as far as they potentially could in their wildest dreams without Jack Viney part of it.”
