Cyril Rioli has only been officially retired from footy for three days, but already the rumours are starting about his return.

Speaking on the Saturday Rub today, Triple M Footy news breaker Damian Barrett said that the door could be open to his return in the future.

Damo said that Rioli any return won't be in 2019.

“It won’t be for 2019 the way I read it, but I reckon it’s going to ramp up as 2019 unfolds where clubs will absolutely be speaking pretty hard to him,” Damo said.

“They’ll have a crack at it for this year, but from what I’m led to believe there’s a signing off arrangement with the Hawks that doesn’t allow him to play for another club next year.

Damo said that if he doesn't come back, the chances of it happening at Hawthorn are slim.

"I'd be having Hawthorn 100 to 1 (for a return)," he said.

"He's chosen to make a decision to leave now with two and a half years to run... there was a period of time there where he just didn't want to be at this footy club."
