Injury-prone Cat Daniel Menzel has spoken about his emotional comeback game against Collingwood at the end of 2015.

Menzel missed four years of footy after rupturing his right anterior cruciate ligament against Hawthorn in the 2011 finals series, and made his return to the game in round 22 2015 against the Pies at the MCG.

Today he appeared on the Sunday Rub and spoke about the emotion surrounding his return game four years after his first knee injury.

“For 1450 days I did think about that day every single day, and did think about what would happen,” Menzel said.

“And so it’s funny, people always say ‘I didn’t actually see that happening, I couldn’t have predicted that’, but I had 1450 different visions in my head going through of what the game would be like.

“So it was something that drove me every day… it was such a surreal feeling about that it actually was happening.”

Menzel was naturally thrilled about making it back, but said it was bittersweet because the Cats lost a crucial game.

“It was a really weird day because we needed to win to make finals, that game against the Pies, and they beat us by 40 points,” he said.

“We were pretty down and flat in the rooms, and I remember after the game I was too because I wanted to play finals, I wanna win a grand final.

“But it wasn’t until my family and friends came in and it was like I’d won a grand final the way they came in.”

Menzel said his physio put it in perspective for him.

“He came up to me after the game and said ‘mate I know you’re pretty flat right now, but you’ve gotta take a moment to realise what we’ve just achieved'," Menzel said.

"That sorta hit me as well, that’s gonna stick with me forever.”
