Aussie legend Daniel Ricciardo pulled off a gutsy win in the Monaco Grand Prix overnight.

The Red Bull driver started from pole position after a dominant qualifying campaign, and all seemed to be tracking well when he burst off the grid to take a commanding lead.

Everything went pear shaped when Ricciardo radioed in to tell his team that his car was losing power.

“OK mate, we can see what’s going on,” his race engineer replied.

“You just need to keep it smooth, keep focused.”

“Will it get better?” Ricciardo asked.

“Negative, mate. Negative.”

The MGU-K unit had failed on his car, leaving him with about 25% of his car’s normal power capacity.

Ricciardo managed that scenario and held off former teammate Sebastian Vettel to take the win by 7 seconds.

The win was redemption for Ricciardo, who was denied victory in the same race in 2016 when Red Bull stuffed up a pit stop and left him in second place.

Lewis Hamilton leads the driver’s championship on 110 points, with Vettel and Ricciardo in second and third.
