Collingwood's recent reversal of fortunes has continued with star recruit Daniel Wells cleared to return to the playing field.

Wells was absent with a calf injury as the Pies slipped to a 0-2 start to their campaign.

Nathan Buckley's men kick-started their season with an upset win over Sydney at the SCG at the weekend and now Wells is available for selection after shaking off the injury.

Bucks confirmed he will play VFL this weekend.

Wells' availability comes after another former Kangaroo, rugged midfielder Levi Greenwood, made a swift recovery from hip surgery to play his first game of the season in last week's thrilling one-point win over the Swans.

Young midfielder Jordan De Goey added to Collingwood's early-season woes when he broke his hand in a bar fight and then told the club he suffered the injury playing with his dog.

The 20-year-old was slapped with a three-match ban by the club to be served after he's fit to return from the injury.

"Pending a specialist report on his hand, we are hopeful Jordan will be declared fit to go by the end of this week," Walsh said.

"Which would mean he is available for VFL selection as of this weekend."

The Magpies will attempt to square their season ledger when they play St Kilda at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
