One fan has shared his touching gesture to Jim Stynes on social media ahead of Melbourne's preliminary final against West Coast.

The fan, Gary Brady, posted a photo of a Melbourne scarf "for the week ahead" resting on Stynes's headstone in the mountains near Dublin, Ireland.

Stynes's ashes were scattered in the Wicklow Mountains after he passed away in 2012.

"Just took the drive up to the great man's headstone here in the Dublin mountains to give him a scarf for the week ahead," Brady wrote on Monday.

"Let's get the (premiership cup) up here!"
